    Is the biblical god lovable?

The debate between Atheism and Intelligent design has always been a matter of whether or not a god exists. I'd like to change the debate for this thread and ask: Do you really want the god of your bible to exist? Now, don't just hit the reply button and blurt out YES! Think about (list them if you can) all of the things written in the bible that portrays god as ehhh, not such a nice guy.

According to your bible, and just to name a few, the god you are loving KILLED EVERYONE ON THE PLANET, except for Noah's family. Do you fully understand the implication? This god you love is a mass murderer! If you had been living back then, he would've killed you too!

He turned Lot's wife into a pillar of salt just for turning around and looking at the destruction of sodom and gomorrah. <--- Turning and looking isn't even against the ten commandments. If you had turned and looked, he would have turned YOU into a pillar of salt.

He told Abraham to kill his son. It doesn't matter what transpired after this because the question is: What kind of a loving god would even say something like that? It's LUNACY! If your god could do this to Abraham, then he could do it to you!

Think about it. Take some time to go through your bible and look at all the terrible things this god hath wrought upon his children. Is this the god you REALLY want to be real?

If this god were real, oh I would definitely fear him. But, Love? No way. So, if there IS a god out there, I sure to hell hope it isn't this one.

I think his message is lovable. All the other stuff you pointed out is not. They say god loves, god cares, but all over the Bible there are these stories of a vengeful, murderous and cruel God. Yeah I do not want that God. I want the ever loving forever forgiving God. If one does exist.

Let's and Split, let's think back to where Noah was when he built the Ark. And Noah wrote these pages himself. Not every human and animal on earth was killed during the flood. Most certainly drowned in Noah's area of a few square miles. Noah's story is told because God told him there would be a flood and he built his ark as God commanded and in the dimensions he was told to build.
The people in his village thought him a fool. But he went ahead and did as God instructed and was able to save his family and many animals that would have drowned.

As for Abraham God was testing Abraham's faith. God knew Abraham could not kill his only son. But to be the man God wanted Abraham to be as leader of the Jews he had to be tested.

As for Lots wife she didn't follow instruction. God destroyed Sodom and Gommorah by fire and he allowed Lot and his wife to get away. His only request was that they not look back or they would be turned into a pillar of salt. What's so crazy about that...He let them leave safe and unharmed, but Lot's wife was like Eve and could not resist temptation.

Why Noah, why let him know and not everyone else? If God communicated with everyone then they would not have laughed at Noah

If God knew that abraham could not kill his son then why was the test needed? God should know what kind of man Abraham was, what kind of Leader he would evolve to.

God destroying this place does not sound like a loving and caring god. Again God would have know she was going to look back

If all this stuff is true, it seems like god likes to play games with us, I mean he must know the outcome to everything, all our choices.

Exactly Split. God knows our choices before he presents them. And we do have choices. The story of Abraham, Noah and Lot are like many stories of the Jews as they struggled to gain a foothold in a world of Muslims. Jesus is a direct descendent of all of these men and of all the men and women in the stories in the Old Testament. It's stories of the lives of those men and women who would set the stage for the coming of the Messiah. Jesus.
John the Baptist was a prophet who fore told the coming of Jesus. And he was right when and where Jesus would be born and live.

And by the way as a side note. Lot was brother to Abraham, and Abraham feared for his brothers life among the savages at Sodom and Gommorah and Abraham asked God to intercede on Lot's behalf and get him out of S&G. God did as Abraham asked and sent his angels to destroy S&G.

    I hear you.

Why would a loving God destroy a city or place. If I remember correctly this place was a place of sin right? Why would god listen to Abraham and destrot it. Is Abraham not committing Sin by asking God to kill these people. He may not have killed them directly but indirectly, if in fact it happened this way.

Can you not see that you are defending a god that could one day kill YOU for simply turning around and looking? How much would you love and worship Him if he told you to kill YOUR child?

You wrote story four times, Draggy. Are you trying tell us that you don't believe the events in the Old Testament are real? If so, how does half of a book that is unbelievable suddenly turn into another half of a book that IS believable?

Hey Draggy, So I am researching a bit about what you say is the prophecy that John foretold of the coming of Jesus. Just started so if I am way out of line or interpretation, let me know. Here's what I have gotten so far, its from wikipedia, I like using it but I do not fully rely on its info, I will however research further as I normally do through other places.

"Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. — Malachi 3:1[43]
and also at the end of the next chapter in Malachi 4:5-6 where it says,
"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse."
The Jews of Jesus's day expected Elijah to come before the Messiah; indeed, some modern Jews continue to await Elijah's coming as well, as in the Cup of Elijah the Prophet in the Passover Seder. This is why the disciples ask Jesus in Matthew 17:10, 'Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?.' The disciples are then told by Jesus that Elijah came in the person of John the Baptist,
"Jesus replied, "To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands." Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist". — Matthew 17:11-13
These passages are applied to John in the Synoptic Gospels.[44][45][46] The Gospel of John indicates that John the Baptist denied this,
"Now this was John's testimony when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, "I am not the Christ." They asked him, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No." - John 1:19-21

    Source: Wikipedia

So what I am reading here is that John prophecised the coming of a messiah, whom one assumes is Jesus, but he states that a prophet Elijah will come first. Elijah did not, and Jesus said that Elijah was really John. John denies this. Is an exact date, time, birthplace ever given for when this messiah (Jesus) was supposed to come, also what about Elijah. Maybe you can shed some light.
