Thread: what has happened to mailfriends.com

Has anyone any idea whats happened?anyone got in contact with 101 etc?

According to sarahg... in response to an email from another member.

"You are right we are now on an amazon server and amazon did some unannounced batch updates which took out the site. It will take a senior developer more than one day to rebuild and we don't have anyone available at this time.

It's terribly frustrating for us as well as you but it's a hard financial fact of life that the site is loss making and this just crippled us.

If I have any updates I will let you know.

According to me...

IO1 have let it die and while mailfriends.com will reappear in a few months time, the mailfriends community is gone.

In the last year and a half mailfriends only got worse and worse... they basically abandoned it...

IF they're gonna remake the page and better, then it's worth waiting a couple of months... but I doubt it...

What was mailfriends.com? I hear people on here talking about it

Mailfriends is/was a penpal site similar to Interpals. It used to be one of the most popular places ten years ago, but in recent times was doing it tough before vanishing a few weeks back.

You will hear about it here because this place (well I say this place but this place is now also something different) was started up by a former member of Mailfriends and a bunch of ex-MF'ers came here as the original members. Every once in a while you will have mailfriends mentioned in passing because even now a lot of the members of this place are or were MF'ers.

I just had the opportunity to meet some good friends from Mailfriends who are still in contact with me, I really regret I really regret that financial troubles and ungrateful people has caused the disaster in mailfriend, guys it was a good site, to be honest one of my favorites I think if we get together our voices the place could be back in a while, it could be successful once again if the site gets a new aspect, nothing else is asked since the concept is correct!!! it was a really famous site years ago, I just remember the English teacher suggesting us the place to get improve our English writing just chatting with some people around there… was it useful for us? Yes, I was. I just not mention how many people just found their half heart there as well, now they are happily married and forgot the site which just changed their lives… MAILFRIENDS PLEASE COME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

It won't reappear. The signs were obvious. The moment the site was closed down for new members supposedly because of maintenance (which never occurred) it was clear to me that it would shut down.Putting the blame on Amazon is yet another excuse. The mailfriends community was already diminishing in numbers long before the site shut down. At the moment I even started my own free little network (very similar to mf but more advanced features) to experiment and look if there is interest. On the facebook fan page of mailfriends,there are currently 23 likes of which only a few are active there. And with a bunch of mf'ers on Interpals and on Facebook I am beginning to think that only a few really were invested.

The original may not be back but I have a new mailfriends site going now.We have a few of the older members there as well as some others.We hope to get more back there soon.
